AB: At-bats
The number of official at-bats, excluding walks, hit-by-pitches, sacrifices, errors, fielder’s choices, and catcher’s interference.
Age: Age
A player’s age on June 30 of that year.
AIR%: Air Ball Rate
The percentage of batted balls that are not ground balls.
AVG: Batting Average
The ratio of hits to at-bats.
B: Bats
The batting hand of the hitter.
BABIP: Batting Average on Balls in Play
The batting average for balls hit into play, excluding home runs.
BB: Walks
The number of walks drawn.
BB%: Walk Rate
The percentage of plate appearances that result in walks.
BB/K: Walk to Strikeout Ratio
The ratio of walks to strikeouts.
Cent%: Center Rate
The percentage of batted balls hit to the middle of the field.
Chase%: Chase Rate
The percentage of pitches outside the strike zone that are swung at.
Contact%: Contact Rate
The percentage of swings that result in contact, including both fair and foul balls.
CS: Caught Stealing
The number of unsuccessful stolen-base attempts.
CSW%: Called Strike plus Whiff Rate
The percentage of pitches that result in either a called strike or a swinging strike. Higher values favor pitching, while lower values favor hitting.
2B: Doubles
The number of hits on which the batter reaches second base without an error or fielder’s choice.
FB%: Fly Ball Rate
The percentage of batted balls that are fly balls.
G: Games Played
The number of games played.
GB%: Ground Ball Rate
The percentage of batted balls that are hit on the ground.
GB/FB: Ground Ball to Fly Ball Ratio
The ratio of ground balls to fly balls.
GDP: Grounded into Double Plays
The number of ground balls that result in double plays.
H: Hits
The number of hits recorded.
HP: Hit by Pitches
The number of hit-by-pitches received.
HR: Home Runs
The number of home runs hit.
HR%: Home Run Rate
The percentage of plate appearances that result in home runs.
HR/FB: Home Run to Fly Ball Ratio
The percentage of fly balls that result in home runs.
IBB: Intentional Walks
The number of intentional walks received.
IFFB%: Infield Fly Ball Rate
The percentage of fly balls hit as infield pop-ups.
ISO: Isolated Power
A measure of raw power, calculated as SLG – AVG.
K%: Strikeout Rate
The percentage of plate appearances that result in strikeouts.
LD%: Line Drive Rate
The percentage of batted balls that are line drives.
O-Con%: Out-of-Zone Contact Rate
The percentage of swings on pitches outside the strike zone that result in contact.
OBP: On-Base Percentage
The percentage of plate appearances that result in reaching base.
OFFB%: Outfield Fly Ball Rate
The percentage of batted balls hit as outfield fly balls.
Oppo%: Opposite Field Rate
The percentage of batted balls hit to the opposite field.
OPS: On-Base Plus Slugging
The sum of on-base percentage and slugging percentage.
OPS+: On-Base Plus Slugging Plus
A normalized version of OPS that adjusts for park factors, with 100 always being the league average. Higher values are better.
PA: Plate Appearances
The total number of batting appearances, including outcomes excluded from at-bats.
PLUS%: Plus Rate
The percentage of pitches that produce a positive pitching outcome, including called strikes, swinging strikes, foul balls, and batted-ball outs.
Pull%: Pull Rate
The percentage of batted balls hit to the pull side of the field.
PullAIR%: Pull Air Rate
The percentage of pulled batted balls that are not ground balls.
Qualifier: Qualified Hitter
Qualification requires 3.1 PA per team game played in NPB or 2.7 PA per team game played in the Farm leagues.
R: Runs
The number of runs scored.
RBI: Runs Batted In
The number of runs batted in, excluding runs scored on double plays or errors.
SB: Stolen Bases
The number of successful stolen bases.
SF: Sacrifice Flies
The number of fly-ball outs that allow a run to score.
SH: Sacrifice Hits
The number of bunts that advance a runner while resulting in an out.
sHPT: Simple Hittable Pitches Taken
The percentage of taken pitches that are hittable, calculated as C/(C+D). Lower is generally better because fewer hittable pitches are taken.
1B: Singles
The number of hits on which the batter reaches first base without an error or fielder’s choice.
SLG: Slugging Percentage
The number of total bases per at-bat.
SO: Strikeouts
The number of strikeouts recorded.
sSeager: Simple Seager
A simplified version of SEAGER created by Sky Kalkman that measures swing decisions using zone vs. out-of-zone pitches instead of more complex pitch-level models. It rewards swings at strikes and takes on balls and is calculated as D/(A+D) – C/(C+D) using four pitch-decision buckets.
sST: Simple Selection Tendency
The percentage of good decisions that come from taking bad pitches, calculated as D/(A+D). Higher values generally indicate a more selective approach, while lower values generally indicate a more aggressive approach.
Swing%: Swing Rate
The percentage of pitches that are swung at.
SwStr%: Swinging Strike Rate
The percentage of pitches that result in swinging strikes.
TB: Total Bases
The total number of bases recorded on hits.
3B: Triples
The number of hits on which the batter reaches third base without an error or fielder’s choice.
TTO%: Three True Outcomes Rate
The percentage of plate appearances that result in one of the three true outcomes: a home run, a strikeout, or a walk.
Whiff%: Whiff Rate
The percentage of swings that result in swinging strikes.
wSB: Weighted Stolen Base Runs
An estimate of runs contributed through stolen-base attempts, with 0.0 representing league average, calculated as (SB × 0.17) + (CS × −0.33) – (LgSB × 0.17 + LgCS × −0.33) / (Lg1B + LgBB + LgHBP − LgIBB) × (1B + BB + HBP − IBB).
Z-Con%: In-Zone Contact Rate
The percentage of swings at pitches inside the strike zone that result in contact. This is a strong indicator of pure contact ability.
Z-O Swing%: Zone-minus-Chase Swing Rate
The difference between in-zone swing rate and chase rate.
Z-Swing%: In-Zone Swing Rate
The percentage of pitches inside the strike zone that are swung at.

PITCHING
Age: Age
A player’s age on June 30 of that year.
AIR%: Air Ball Rate
The percentage of batted balls that are not hit on the ground, including line drives, fly balls, and pop-ups.
Arm%: Arm-Side Pitch Rate
The percentage of pitches thrown to the arm side of the strike zone.
Ball%: Ball Rate
The percentage of pitches recorded as balls.
BB: Walks
The number of walks allowed.
BB%: Walk Rate
The percentage of batters faced who draw walks.
Behind%: Behind-in-Count Pitch Rate
The percentage of pitches thrown while behind in the count. Lower is generally better because it indicates more frequent work from ahead in the count.
BF: Batters Faced
The total number of batters faced.
Cent%: Center Rate
The percentage of batted balls hit to the middle of the field.
CG: Complete Games
The number of games in which one pitcher records every out.
Chase%: Chase Rate
The percentage of pitches outside the strike zone that are swung at.
Contact%: Contact Rate
The percentage of swings that result in contact, including both fair and foul balls.
CStr%: Called Strike Rate
The percentage of pitches taken for called strikes.
CSW%: Called Strike plus Whiff Rate
The percentage of pitches that result in either a called strike or a swinging strike.
Diff: ERA-FIP Differential
The difference between ERA and FIP. Higher values indicate underperformance and lower values indicate overperformance relative to expectations.
ER: Earned Runs
The number of earned runs allowed.
ERA: Earned Run Average
The average number of earned runs allowed per nine innings pitched.
ERA+: Earned Run Average Plus
A normalized version of ERA that adjusts for park factors, with 100 always being the league average. Higher values are better.
ERA-: Earned Run Average Minus
A normalized version of ERA that adjusts for park factors, with 100 always being the league average. Lower values are better.
F-Str%: First-Pitch Strike Rate
The percentage of plate appearances that begin with a first-pitch strike.
FB Velo: Average Fastball Velocity
The average fastball velocity, measured in miles per hour (mph).
FB%: Fly Ball Rate
The percentage of batted balls that are fly balls.
FIP: Fielding Independent Pitching
A measure of pitching performance based on strikeouts, walks, and home runs, independent of defensive performance, calculated as ((13 × HR) + (3 × (BB + HBP)) − (2 × K)) / IP + FIP constant.
FIP-: Fielding Independent Pitching Minus
A normalized version of FIP that adjusts for park factors, with 100 always being the league average. Lower values are better.
G: Games Played
The number of pitching appearances.
GB%: Ground Ball Rate
The percentage of batted balls that are hit on the ground.
Glove%: Glove-Side Pitch Rate
The percentage of pitches thrown to the glove side of the strike zone.
Grade: Pitch ERA Grade
A 20–80 scale grade for pERA, inspired by Jeff Zimmerman’s model for per-pitch valuations. A grade of 50 is league average, and every 10 points represents one standard deviation from average.
H: Hits
The number of hits allowed.
HB: Hit by Pitches
The number of hit-by-pitches issued.
High%: High Pitch Rate
The percentage of pitches thrown in the upper half of the strike zone or above it.
HLD: Holds
The number of holds recorded after preserving a lead in a save situation without finishing the game.
HR: Home Runs
The number of home runs allowed.
HR%: Home Run Rate
The percentage of batters faced who hit home runs.
HR/FB: Home Run to Fly Ball Ratio
The percentage of fly balls that result in home runs. Because home run rates on fly balls can fluctuate, HR/FB can help identify potentially unsustainable results.
IBB: Intentional Walks
The number of intentional walks issued.
IFFB%: Infield Fly Ball Rate
The percentage of fly balls hit as infield pop-ups.
IP: Innings Pitched
The total number of innings pitched, recorded in one-third increments.
K%: Strikeout Rate
The percentage of batters faced who strike out.
K-BB%: Strikeout Rate minus Walk Rate
The difference between strikeout rate and walk rate.
kwERA: Strikeout-Walk-Based Earned Run Average
An estimate of ERA based on strikeout and walk rates, calculated as 4.80 − 10 × (SO − BB) / BF. While this may seem oversimplistic, K-BB% is one of the best indicators of future performance.
kwERA-: Strikeout-Walk-Based Earned Run Average Minus
A normalized version of kwERA with 100 always being the league average. Lower values are better.
L: Losses
The number of losses recorded.
LD%: Line Drive Rate
The percentage of batted balls that are line drives.
Low%: Low Pitch Rate
The percentage of pitches thrown in the lower half of the strike zone or below it.
MM%: Middle-Middle Pitch Rate
The percentage of pitches thrown in the middle-middle quadrant of the strike zone.
O-Con%: Out-of-Zone Contact Rate
The percentage of swings on pitches outside the strike zone that result in contact.
OFFB%: Outfield Fly Ball Rate
The percentage of batted balls hit as outfield fly balls.
Oppo%: Opposite Field Rate
The percentage of batted balls hit to the opposite field.
pERA: Pitch ERA
A per-pitch valuation model inspired by Jeff Zimmerman.
pERA-: Pitch ERA Minus
A normalized version of pERA, inspired by Jeff Zimmerman’s model for per-pitch valuations, with 100 always being the league average. Lower values are better.
PLUS%: Plus Rate
The percentage of pitches that produce a positive pitching outcome, including called strikes, swinging strikes, foul balls, and batted-ball outs.
Pull%: Pull Rate
The percentage of batted balls hit to the pull side of the field.
PullAIR%: Pulled Air Ball Rate
The percentage of balls in play that are pulled and not hit on the ground.
Putaway%: Putaway Rate
The percentage of two-strike pitches that result in strikeouts, measuring how often plate appearances are finished once the count reaches two strikes.
Qualifier: Qualified Pitcher
Qualification requires 1.0 IP per team game played in NPB or 0.8 IP per team game played in the Farm.
R: Runs
The total number of runs allowed.
Sec%: Secondary Pitch Rate
The percentage of pitches that are not fastballs (four-seamers, sinkers, or cutters).
SHO: Shutouts
The number of complete-game shutouts recorded.
SO: Strikeouts
The number of strikeouts recorded.
Strike%: Strike Rate
The percentage of pitches recorded as strikes, including called strikes, swinging strikes, foul balls, and balls put in play.
SV: Saves
The number of saves recorded.
Swing%: Swing Rate
The percentage of pitches that are swung at.
SwStr%: Swinging Strike Rate
The percentage of pitches that result in swinging strikes.
T: Throws
The throwing hand of the pitcher.
W: Wins
The number of wins recorded.
Whiff%: Whiff Rate
The percentage of swings that result in swinging strikes.
WHIP: Walks plus Hits per Inning Pitched
The average number of walks and hits allowed per inning pitched.
WP: Wild Pitches
The number of wild pitches thrown that allow baserunners to advance.
xK-BB%: Expected Strikeout Rate Minus Walk Rate
An estimate of strikeout rate minus walk rate, calculated as 0.828 × CSW% + 1.188 × SwStr% − 0.726 × Ball% + 1.778.
Z-Con%: In-Zone Contact Rate
The percentage of swings at pitches inside the strike zone that result in contact, including both fair and foul balls. Lower values generally indicate better bat-missing ability.
Z-O Swing%: Zone-minus-Chase Swing Rate
The difference between in-zone swing rate and chase rate.
Z-Swing%: In-Zone Swing Rate
The percentage of pitches inside the strike zone that are swung at.
Zone%: Zone Rate
The percentage of pitches located inside the strike zone.

ARM: Arm Runs
Defensive runs through throwing.
For outfielders, this includes throwing out and preventing runners from advancing bases.
For catchers, this includes preventing stolen bases.
Blocking: Blocking
A catcher’s blocking value.
DPR: Double Play Runs
Defensive runs through fielding ground ball double plays.
ErrR: Error Runs
Defensive runs through preventing errors.
Framing: Framing
A catcher’s framing value.
Inn: Innings Played
Total innings played at the position, recorded in one-third increments.
Pos: Position
A player’s position on the field.
Corresponding numbers: 1 – Pitcher, 2 – Catcher, 3 – First Base, 4 – Second Base, 5 – Third Base, 6 – Shortstop, 7 – Left Field, 8 – Center Field, 9 – Right Field – DH – Designated Hitter.
Pos Adj: Positional Adjustment
Adjustment/correction to value premium positions higher.
Positional hierarchy: Catcher -> Shortstop -> Center Field -> Second Base -> Third Base -> Right Field -> Left Field -> Designated Hitter
RngR: Range Runs
Defensive runs through fielding batted balls.
TZR: Total Zone Runs
Combined fielding value of various defensive metrics.
For infielders and outfielders: RngR + DPR + ARM + ErrR.
For catchers: ARM + ErrR. Does not include framing or blocking.
TZR/143: Total Zone Runs per 143 games
Approximate TZR per 143 games or 1287 innings, a full NPB season.
